So we haven't really posted anything in awhile, so I thought I would give an update! Well today is our 2 year anniversary! YAY!! We are happy we get to spend it together. We celebrated it over the weekend, we went and saw a movie on base (which is free, yay haha) and then I made us a good dinner. We had a good weekend. Preston had had to do staff duty on Thursday from 09:00 Thursday tell 09:00 Friday so he got all of Friday off. Which he spent mostly sleeping since he only got 2 hours of sleep in that 24 hour period! And than Saturday he only works 2 hours so we got pretty much 3 days together, which was nice.
Last week at the PX on Walker we found this Ginger Bread House thing on sale for like 3 bucks so we bought it for something to do. We had a lot of fun building it! Haha, it came with everything we needed. We spent 2 days building it. Prestons favorite holiday is Halloween so this last week we've been watching scary movies, so while we built this Ginger Bread Haunted House we watched scary movies haha. We had fun doing it! Its now my center peice on my kitchen table!
It has been raining the last 2 days, which we have loved. For Monsoon season, it really doesnt rain all that much. Haha the Katusas (Korean soldiers who work with our Military, they are usually like 18-23) told us that this year has been suprisingly dry for the Monsoon Season. We have still been taking the Hongul Class from the Katusas. There are 2 of the 3 who make me laugh. One day we walked in and they walked over to us and asked us what "whats up" means. It made me laugh. These guys are so nice. Somehow last class we got talking about the Holidays and we told them about shopping the day after Thanksgiving and how crazy it can get, they thought that was so amazing. Holidays for them aren't as big as it is for us. They do have some that are though. This next week or so is their Thanksgiving, and then they have a Holiday where they set out food and create like a shrine for their ancestors and they pray to them and "feed" them with the food for a few days. Those are like the 2 big holidays. They dont really celebrate Halloween here. The Katusas said that the places that have any type of Halloween things are the towns that have the American bases in them, that they picked up the Halloween celebrations for the Americans. Most of the towns here love the Americans. Sometimes when they know there is going to be a demonstration at one of our bases, the towns ppl will make it so that the protesters cannot get anywhere near our bases. Its really funn. They do it here a lot, they always block off the roads around our bases and dont let them through.
Oh and so I have taken up cooking. I love it! I just learned there is like a cooking class on base. They have it like twice a month where you take in something you've cooked for everyone to try and than you swap recipes. I have been thinking of going to it. I want more recipes! I have been spending a lot of time looking some up on the internet! Preston really loves that crunchy chicken recipe grandma sent me! So if anyone has any recipes they like send them my way!! Haha, oh and the Katusas and some of the Korean Wives of the soldiers, have agreed to teach me some Korean cooking so I will send them to anyone who wants to try them- when I learn to make bagolgi you all need to try it! One thing i told them they cannot teach me is how to make dog, i just learned that they have a dog meat soup! How gross huh?! The katusas couldnt stop laughing about how grossed out I was. There is a resteraunt down the street from my house that serves dog. A bunch of the guys from the Unit went down there and tried dog the other day! Gross huh?!
